Meaning of symbols

Several different symbols appear on our products and are used with the intention of providing brief and clear information.

We use standardised medical device symbols according to ISO 15223-1:2021 and other symbols relevant to the products.

The following briefly explains the meaning of the most frequently used symbols.

Medical device
Indicates that the item is a medical device.

Manufacturer
Indicates the medical device manufacturer and is shown together with name and address of manufacturer.

Distributor
Shows the distributor of the medical device and is shown together with name and address of the distributor.

Importer
Shows the importer of the medical device and is shown together with name and address of the importer.

Production date
Indicates the date when the medical device was manufactured.

Use-by date
Indicates the date after which the medical device must not be used.

Batch code
Informs of the manufacturer’s batch code to identify the batch / lot.

Catalogue number
Shows the article number to identify the medical device.

European compliance
Indicates that the product meets the applicable requirements, which are regulated in the EU harmonization legislation for the affixing of the CE marking.

CE including the NB identification no.
CE marking including the identification number of the notified body. Each notified body has its own identification number.

Aseptic sterilized
Indicates that the product is sterile and that aseptic processing techniques is used.

Single sterile barrier system
Indicates a single sterile barrier system.

Sterilized using irradiation
The medical device has been sterilized using irradiation.

Do not reuse
The medical device is intended for single use only.

Do not use if package is broken
If packaging is damaged or opened, don’t use the product.

Shelf life after opening
Informs of the shelf life of the product after opening the packaging.

Temperature limit – store
Indicates the temperature limits to which the medical device can be safely stored.

Temperature limit – use
Indicates the temperature limits to which the medical device can be safely used.

Instructions for use
Indicates that the user must consult the instructions before using the product.

Translation
To identify that the original medical device information has undergone a translation which supplements or replaces the original information.

Caution
Instructs that the product must not be turned upside down.

Caution for HF
States that caution is necessary using the product, and the medical device is not for use for Hydrofluoric acids.

Avoid eye contact
Avoid getting the product in your eyes.

Store in a dry place
Indicates medical devices that need to be protected from moisture.

Store in a dark place
Indicates medical devices that need to be protected from light sources.

Trash symbol
Indicates that the product must not be flushed down the toilet.

Trash symbol
Dispose the product in household trash.

Dispose after use
Dispose the eyewash bottle after use.

Re-cycle plaster packaging
Plaster packaging must be sorted as recycled material.

The material protecting the plaster itself must be sorted as recycled material.
