"It is really not particularly complicated; it is a fact that proper hand hygiene is common sense since clean hands help to prevent the transmission of infection. At the end of the day, the pig producing business becomes financially more sound and it is all achievable with a simple approach and limited investment"
The bottom-line is summarised by Ninette Jensen, head of sales and marketing at Plum A/S, referring to the infection combating programme launched by the Danish Minister of Environment and Food Mr Jørgensen (S) on 1 October for Danish pig producers. The five-step programme has been launched with a view to reducing the transmission of resistant MRSA bacteria found in Danish pigs and which in recent years has caused a number of deaths. The programme includes compulsory changing of clothes and hand wash, both when entering and exiting the barn.
Combating bacteria is notably an area in which Plum A/S commands many years of experience, among others from domestic hospitals to which the company is the leading supplier of hand hygiene solutions, including soap and hand disinfection products. Moreover, WipeClean may be used during work in and outside the barn for cleaning tables, instruments, mobile telephones, steering wheels, etc. The infection prevention programme of the Danish ministry covers disinfection of any object touched prior to exiting the barn.
Several farmers will have their habits and routines impacted by the new infection protection programme. By structuring hand hygiene and ensuring appropriate products are available in the right place, however, we will ensure new legislation is more swiftly complied with. That is one key area of expertise for Plum A/S.
"We are skilled in working with and advising on complex hygiene topics at hospitals and Danish companies. Our solutions are readily customised to the barns of Danish pig producers. The directive from the Ministry of Food and Environment regarding hand hygiene requirements for the pig producers corresponds to the requirements imposed on doctors and nurses", explains Ninette Jensen.
Moreover, she stresses that Plum’s products are both mild and effective while complying with current regulatory and environmental requirements.
